General information
Methanol is a fixative used to fix blood smears and to prepare numerous reagents.
Use a high-quality methanol to ensure that smears are properly fixed.
Keep the lids on the bottles and store in a dry environment; methanol evaporates very rapidly, and in very humid environments the fixative capacity of the alcohol can diminish due to water absorption.
When using a product that has expired, verify the fixative capacity with red blood cells on a smear.
Caution, do not use ethanol instead of methanol.
