Lead

3 mm diameter lead core (+/-5%)

Made of non-toxic colour pigments and binding components (wax, resin, etc)

The composition of the lead should be strong and enable fine, smooth and consistent writing

Writing should cause no damage (scratches) to the writing surface

The lead should be glued onto the pencil shaft to avoid movement and be centered along the length of the pencil, it should not break off during sharpening

Does not contain lead (Pb) and the content of other heavy metals in lead core must be lower than relevant standards (ASTM D4236 standards or EN71, part 3)

Casing

Quality wood, hexagonal shape, painted on the exterior

7 mm diameter (+/-5%)

The colour of the paint must correspond to the colour of the lead core

The pencil should be easy to sharpen with a standard plastic or metal sharpener and pare smoothly and consistently, ensuring the minimum amount of shavings

The paint used on the exterior of the pencil should be well applied and not chip easily

The content of any heavy metals in the paint must be lower than relevant standards (ASTM D4236 standards or EN71, part 3)

Lead (Pb) content in the paint will be not more than 90 ppm

Colours

12 assorted, intensive colours

Markings should be easy to read against a white plastic slate or paper surface

The markings should be substantially removable with a standard eraser

Dimensions

The length of each pencil shall be 175 mm (+/- 5%) 

Presentation

To be delivered pre-sharpened and not fitted with an eraser

The 12 different colour pencils are to be contained in a case that is adequately sized and easy to open and close and has a secure means of closure

The pencils should fit the case, it should prevent movement of the pencils

Expected case material: plastic, cardboard or metal

No commercial branding allowed on the pencils
