General information

Instrument used to measure indirect arterial blood pressure; comprised of an aneroid pressure gauge connected to an inflatable cuff, which wraps around the arm and is secured by Velcro tape. Synonyms: blood pressure apparatus, aneroid sphygmomanometer.

Specifications

Components:

Sphygmomanometer parts:

- Aneroid pressure gauge (with no stop pin), with air pressure release-valve.

- Rubber bulb with palm fitting handle.

- Connector to rubber tube.

- Connecting tube.

- Cuff with inflatable bladder.

Materials:

Hardened copper-beryllium: membrane or diaphragm

Stainless steel: handle

Nickel-plated: tube connector and valve

Nylon: cuff and velcro

Latex: connecting tube, bulb, inflatable bag

Specifications:

A sphygmomanometer consists of an inflatable cuff, a measuring unit (the manometer), a tube to connect the two, and an inflation bulb, which is also connected by a tube to the cuff. The inflation bulb contains a one-way valve, to prevent inadvertent pressure leakage, with an adjustable screw valve so that the operator can lower the pressure in the system in a controlled manner.

Manometer, aneroid gauge:

An aneroid manometer is a mechanical gauge with a round dial and a needle that rotates to indicate pressure in mmHg. On the inside, a bellow and spring mechanism senses and transmits the blood pressure measurement to the dial.

Diameter: 49mm

Linear scale: graduated from 0-300mmHg, easy-to-read, maximum error throughout range ±3mmHg.

Diaphragm membrane: can withstand overpressure of up to 600mmHg.

- Connector to rubber tube: on the right-hand side, below the manometer.

- Inflation bulb: for inflating and deflating the rubber-bag cuff.

Mounted with a one-way valve, to prevent inadvertent pressure leakage, with an adjustable screw valve so that the operator can lower the pressure in the system in a controlled manner.

- Cuff: Washable at 30°C, made of non-deformable material with velcro fastening to enable a tight adjustment around the arm. Inside the cuff is an inflatable airbag (bladder).

The airbag (bladder) must be airtight.

3 interchangeable cuff sizes:

XMEQSPHYRIBC05: Length 15.5cm, width 5cm - newborn

XMEQSPHYRIBC07: Length 23cm, width 7.2cm – baby or infant

XMEQSPHYRIBC15: Length 35.5cm, width 10cm - child

- Connecting tube: length 60cm from cuff to aneroid manometer.
