General information
Length, rather than height, is used to measure the statural growth and corpulence of children under two years of age.
Children under 2 years of age are placed horizontally on their backs, barefoot, on an accurately graduated height board, whose 0-value extremity is fitted with a fixed perpendicular headboard. The child’s head is held firmly against the headboard, the buttocks must rest fully on the table, and the legs extended by pressing on the knees. The measurement cursor lies perpendicular to the table; it is slid against the child’s heels while maintaining his or her feet at right angles to the legs. The cursor is firmly held in place while the child is removed; the child’s height (or length) is recorded to the nearest millimetre.
This device is light and practical for carrying; it can be used in mobile clinics and to conduct nutritional surveys, as well as in other health clinics.
