General information

An extension cable is a flexible electrical cable fitted with a power plug on one end and either one or multiple sockets at the other end, allowing for the connection of domestic appliances to a single-phase AC power source through a wall socket.

Some extension cables include an on/off switch and some have a surge protection.

When selecting an extension cable, make sure you select a model which has a protective earth connection both on the plug as well as on the socket(s).

The cable section and socket(s) on domestic extension cables have a maximum power they can safely deliver (typically 16A).

An extension reel can only deliver the full rated current when completely extended.
