General information

For surgery.

To cover patients on the operating table and to maintain aseptic conditions in the operation area.

Reusable drape: all fabrics used must be suitable for normal washing - boiling and autoclaving- and be resistant to a 0.1% chlorine solution. The colour quality must be able to withstand repeated washings and sterilizations.

When local manufacturing is available for drapes and Mayo covers, fabric can be ordered in rolls (refer to XLINMSURCD01 MATERIAL, SURG., cotton, for drapes and gowns, 100m, roll). Locally-purchased fabrics must meet the below specifications.

All new drapes must be washed prior to sterilization.

Industrially-manufactured OT drapes should comply with:

- EN13795-1:2002 Surgical drapes, gowns and clean air suits, used as medical devices, for patients, clinical staff and equipment.

 

- General requirements for manufacturers, processors and products.

 

Colour quality must be able to withstand repeated washings and sterilizations.

 

All drapes must be cut wider than the requested finished size, particularly those made with 100% cotton fabric. Cotton fabrics have an estimated shrinkage of ±5 to 6 % on weft (width) and ±8-9% on warp (length) after the first laundering.

 

Sewing recommendations:

- Hem:                       finished width 1cm. 

- Dependent on the size and fabric 4 lockstitch-hemmed borders or 2 border plus 2 selvedge borders.

- Loose threads: very few to none on reception.

- Washing: All fabrics must indicate they are suitable for normal washing - boiling and autoclaving- and are resistant to a 0.1% chlorine solution.
