General information
This multiple micronutrients tablet, also called UNIMMAP, is a complete supplementation formulated to prevent anemia among pregnant and lactating women.
UNIMMAP can replace the traditional mix of Ferrous and Folic acid. Note that there is half of the amount of folic acid, but the presence of the other micronutrients increase the iron absorption.
Recommandation :
- Prevention of anemia and micronutrients deficiencies among pregnant and lactating women
→ 1 UNIMMAP tablet per day during the pregnancy and the first 6 months of breastfeeding.
- Treatment of anemia among pregnant and lactating women
→ 1 UNIMMAP tablet per day + 1 folic acid tablet
In the ICRC, this tablet is also used to prevent micronutrients deficiencies in places of detention:
- When the diet is poor on micronutrients and/or when some micronutrients deficiencies have already been diagnosed in the place of detention.
Note, that we often use the QBMIX to supplement meals in such contexts but the importation of QBMIX is not always possible or can take a long time.
To prevent micronutrients deficiencies among detainees, we recommend:
→ 1 UNIMMAP tablet per day until the quality of meals is improved and provide enough micronutrients.
- To supplement the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition in places of detention, when a local diet is proposed
→ 1 UNIMMAP tablet per day for the duration of the treatment
Information:
UNIMMAP is not recommended for children because of its high levels of Vitamin A and Iron – higher than the daily recommended intake for children.
