General information

The complete IFRC Water and Sanitation Disaster Response is composed of:

WatSan ERU (Emergency Response Unit) :
Water and Sanitation Module 15 provides water to Sphere standards for a total of up to 15,000 people in 3 to 5 densely populated locations (as opposed to spread out rural communities).  The module includes materials for delivering water through a pipeline  and with local trucking capacity.  The ERU also includes basic sanitation equipment but for only around 5,000 people.
Mass Sanitation Module 20 provides hygiene promotion and sanitation for up to 20,000 people.  The area covered may be larger than the water modules, but is somewhat limited by the amount of human resources in the module.
Water and Sanitation Module 40 provides water to Sphere standards for a total of up to 40,000 people in up to 2 densely populated locations (as opposed to spread out rural communities).  The module includes materials for delivering water through a pipeline and with local trucking capacity.  The ERU also includes basic sanitation equipment but for only around 5,000 people.
These modules replace the old Specialized Water, Mass Water, and Distribution and Trucking units.
WatSan Disaster Response Kits :
The Federation is also currently pre-positioning WatSan Disaster Response Kits in various locations.  The 3 types of Kits provide water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion for 2, 5, and 10,000 people respectively.
