General information

To immobilize joint or limb fractures. Applied as a slab, splint or full cylindrical cast.

Rapid setting.

Specifications

A gauze bandage coated with plaster of Paris. The bandage comes wrapped around a plastic spool, which is designed to allow rapid and even wetting upon immersion. Once wet the bandage sets, forming a hard and rigid structure that is both porous and absorbent.

Materials:

Textile base: plain weave, gauze fabric, 17 threads.

 

Plaster of paris (POP): blend of alpha and beta forms of calcium sulphate hemihydrate, combined with binders and accelerators to make the POP stick to the textile base.

Nominal Width: 06, 10, 15 and 20cm; used for backslab casts only.

 

Soaking temperature: 20-25°C, check manufacturer’s instructions.

 

Immersion time: 7-8 seconds, check manufacturer’s instructions

One roll, presented in a heat-welded protective wrapping (sealed against humidity) with the following information on the labe: length, width, rapid setting, lot number, expiry date, manufacturer reference number, and directions for use (on labelling or separate insert). Must be multilingual: English, French and Spanish, others when available.

 

Manufacturer’s name and address, CE mark

Storage recommendations:

Store under dry conditions (deteriorates with exposure to dampness).

 

Keep at moderate temperature maximum 25°C (deteriorates under exposure to heat).

Other requirements:

Meets pharmacopoeia specifications.
